Sandra Mathers: BSc

Senior Researcher, Department of Education, University of Oxford

Sandra is a Senior Researcher and Principal Investigator at the University of Oxford. Her main research interests are the quality of early years education and care, and the relationships between quality and children’s development. Sandra’s research is strongly policy-focused and she has been PI on a number of large-scale government evaluations of early childhood initiatives. Her research has had significant policy impact and she is a regular advisor to the government.
Sandra is also co-Director of A+ Education Ltd., which supports local authorities and early years practitioners in quality improvement. She regularly presents and advises nationally on issues relating to quality in the early years. She is co-convener of the ECERS Local Authority Quality Improvement Network, which has more than 100 members, including representatives from over 50 local authorities, the Department for Education (DfE) and Ofsted.
Together with colleague Kathy Sylva, Sandra is jointly responsible for leading and developing the early years part of the Impact and Economic Evaluation.
