The initial protocol for the national evaluation has been published. The paper details the evaluation of the impact and cost-effectiveness of the A Better Start (ABS) area-based intervention programme on early-life outcomes, which will be a longitudinal cohort study with comparison (control) cohort samples. There are are 5 ABS areas and 15 matched comparison sites and the cohort study that incorporates these (n=2885) begins in 2019. There was a separate cross-sectional baseline survey in 2016/17. Primary outcomes include nutrition, socioeconomic development, speech, language and learning. You can download the evaluation protocol here.
