A Better Start is a £215 million investment by the Big Lottery Fund, launched in October 2012 to improve the life chances of some of the most vulnerable babies and children in England. Blackpool is one of the five areas that were competitively selected to deliver programmes of events to improve understanding about effective early childhood intervention. The other sites that make up the programme are: Bradford, Lambeth, Nottingham and Southend.

The last Learning and Development event held for A Better Start partners focused on Social and Emotional Development and was co hosted in September 2016 by Small Steps Big Changes in Nottingham.
